The Difference Detail Makes: A Lesson in Dessert Styling

For the record: we truly loved creating both of these cakes. The clients were a joy to work with, and this remains one of our favorite venues. Our goal in sharing these photos isn't to critique the past, but to help our future clients get the biggest impact and the best experience from their dessert display.

Interestingly, both of these photos were taken in the exact same room at the same venue. However, Photo #2 changed the way we consult with our clients forever.

Before this event, we were casual about dessert presentation—sometimes we didn't mention it at all. But looking at Cake #2, we realized there were three "invisible" factors we hadn't properly addressed:

  • Lighting: This corner had heavy purple uplighting that altered the cake's appearance.

  • Background: The table was placed directly in front of an unsightly service door.

  • Height: The cake was placed flat on the table rather than on a stand.

What we’ve learned:
Now, we guide our clients through these details. We discuss the "magic" of a cake stand (it truly transforms the silhouette), the preference for natural light, and choosing backgrounds that highlight the dessert rather than distracting from it.

Details matter. Experience matters. And we’re here to ensure your cake looks as incredible as it tastes.

With love,
Jen
