When Should You Book Your Wedding Cake?
When Should You Book Your Wedding Cake?
The short answer is: As soon as possible.
While most wedding websites suggest starting your search six months out, the reality of the industry is much different. At Meringue Bakery, we recommend locking in your date the moment you have your venue secured.
Here is a behind-the-scenes look at why booking early is the smartest move for your big day:
1. Capacity is About More Than Just "Numbers"
Meringue Bakery is lucky to have a full staff of talented pastry chefs, but we still hit capacity several times a year. Our availability is determined by three main factors:
The Volume of Bookings: How many cakes are already on the calendar.
The Scale of the Design: A single high-detail, "VIP" wedding cake can require as much time and labor as ten smaller weddings. Once our labor hours are filled for a weekend, we have to close the books.
Staff Availability: Ensuring we have our best hands on deck to give every cake the attention it deserves.
2. Peak Season Fills Up Fast
If you are getting married during these peak times, you are competing for a spot on a very crowded calendar:
Memorial Day Weekend
Labor Day Weekend
September & October (Our busiest months!)
3. The "Last-Minute" Reality
Can you find a baker one month before your wedding? Usually, yes. However, waiting that long often means you’ll have to lower your expectations. You may have to be flexible with your design, flavor choices, or delivery options based on what the bakery can manage on short notice. Booking early ensures you get exactly what you dreamed of—not just what’s left.
