What I Wish I Knew: 4 Wedding Regrets from a Professional Baker
What I Wish I Knew: 4 Wedding Regrets from a Professional Baker
Brian and I were married at The Cargill Room in February 2013. I am forever grateful to my husband and our families for making that day so special—but as they say, hindsight is 20/20.
If I could go back and talk to "2013 Jen," here are the four things I would have done differently:
Skipped the DIY Flowers: I ordered from a large distributor and assembled them ourselves. I wouldn't recommend this. Flowers are a last-minute task. Instead of "bossing" my family around at the eleventh hour, I wish I had spent those three days being present and soaking in intentional time with them.
Hired a Videographer: At the time, it felt unnecessary. Now? I wish I could show our kids a video of our love story. I want them to hear our voices and see what that day felt like—that history is so important to them.
Prioritized the Family Photo: We missed a large family photo on my side because a family member arrived late. The night went by in a blur, and I didn't think to ask for one later. Don't be afraid to work with your photographer to ensure those "must-have" group shots happen, no matter what.
Passed on the Gift Opening: I hosted one because it’s all I’d ever known. Honestly? It felt like an afterthought. I wish I had just slept in the next day and enjoyed my first morning as a newlywed instead of hosting another party.
Engagement season is officially here! With so many couples saying "Yes" between November and December, I want to hear from you:
What is your best piece of advice on what NOT to do when planning a wedding?
With Love,
Jen
